Home Decor Craft Ideas: Monogram Giraffe Print Dining Set

Animal prints are chic and here to stay! This adorable monogram giraffe print dining set is not only a custom creation, it looks perfect in a Safari or African themed dining room or kitchen and mimics sets found in expensive home boutiques.
For this project, you will need:

- One plain wood dining set (table and chairs)

- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer

- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ultra Flat Black

- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Khaki

- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots

- Krylon Clear Polyurethane

- Animal Print Trio stencil from American Home Stencil

- Large monogram letter stencil

- Medium grit sandpaper

- Tack cloth

- Masking tape

- Newspaper

Due to the size and nature of this project, it is best done outdoors with several layers of newspaper covering your workspace. When working with spray paint, always make sure your work area is well ventilated.

Begin with a solid wood dining set that is either unfinished or has had any paint or stain removed with stripper. Make sure any dirt or grime is not present on the wood surface. Gently sand the entire table and each of the chairs with medium grit sandpaper. Remove any excess dust after sanding with a tack cloth.

Prime each of the chairs and the table with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer. Let the primer dry for one to two hours before continuing. Paint both the table and the chairs with three to four coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ultra Flat Black. Let the project cure overnight before continuing.

Secure the monogram stencil to the center of the table with masking tape. Spray the monogram with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Khaki, making sure that no overspray comes in contact with the rest of the table top. Repeat this process with the top of the back of each of the chairs. Allow the monogram paint portions to dry for a couple hours before continuing.

Apply masking tape around the monogram pattern on the table top to protect the outside black paint. Lay the giraffe portion of the Animal Print Trio stencil over the monogram letter on the table top. Gently spray with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Brown Boots to create the animal print look. Repeat this with each chair, allowing each to dry for at least another two hours.

Coat the entire project with Krylon Clear Polyurethane sealant. Dry overnight before bringing inside and enjoying.

Ideas for Homemade Window Valances

A valance is the signature of a perfect window treatment. It is the proverbial icing on the cake when it comes to window treatments, and the uniqueness of valances is the difference between ordinary window décor and something far more stylish. Consider the following ideas for homemade valances, and add a touch of style while saving money in the process. It is not necessary to buy fabric labeled as a window treatment to end up with a whole new look that is truly striking and highly unique. Create something homemade, and dress the windows with creativity and style.
Top Windows with an Array of Feathered Boas

When looking for ideas for homemade window valances, depending on the location, feathered boas make lovely window toppers. They are especially stylish in a bedroom or powder room. They are available in a rainbow of colors, and various hues can be combined to match accent colors in a room. In many cases they look far better adorning windows than people.

Homemade Scarf Valances for a Window

Scarf valances are comprised of flowing yards of fabric, but they do not have to be purchased at inflated prices just because they are labeled with a specific purpose in mind. Buy the appropriate amount of nylon fabric to create homemade scarf valances each window in the room. Lightly press and hem the raw edges, and drape the fabric over a café rod or valance hardware. This will save money, but it will still look great. Consider combining two colors, and loosely intertwine the valances over the window. This is a great way to create a designer look without the designer price.

Use a Lacy Dresser Scarf to Top a Window

A beautiful dresser scarf can be displayed vertically as well as horizontally, and it does not have to be used to adorn furniture. When looking for homemade valances for a window, use a pretty dresser scarf. Loosely drape it over an existing rod, or add new hardware to hold the homemade valance. If the dresser scarf has holes in the design, consider threading narrow ribbon through the openings to add additional color to window treatments. Even tiny bows look beautiful on homemade window treatments in the right location.

Consider Real Scarf Valances

Instead of buying material and hemming the edges of homemade valances for windows, use real scarves. Buy several nylon scarves meant to be used as headwear, and tie the ends together until they reach the perfect length to top a window. Feel free to combine various colors found within the space. These homemade valances give a whole new meaning to scarf valances, and they will add a touch of whimsy and style to an otherwise ordinary window.
